Doug Campbell and I were good friends in High School. I cannot remember how we became friends but I remember many happy hours discussing deep matters and of course girls (any area where he did much better then I). There were trips to Bronson Canyon on (me on my moped and him on a small motorcycle) that my parents would have killed me had they known about. I remember Doug getting married and circumstances causing our lives to drift apart. I lost track of Doug years ago and despite running into him while taking graduation stills at Pierce college (he actually graduated right in front of me and I took his Graduation still, which I probably muffed since I was so shocked to see him). I never manage to re-connect with Doug not for a lack of trying but lets face it Campbell is a more common name then Ordesky. So today while doing a routine search of Google reference for "Joel Ordesky" I came across Doug’s blog entries from August 2003. Lucky for me Doug’s use of my full name created the closing link that has allowed me to find him. Fascinating that it took a zoo application, a blog and Google to close a nearly 20 year gap in a great friendship.

Well the big project of the weekend was the search and purchase of a bunk bed for the kids. Cole is really getting to tall for his toddler bed and we always intended to get a bunk bed when he was old enough to sleep on the top bunk.

So the grand adventure actually started last weekend as we searched several local stores to find limited stock on hand and very high prices. I found much better selection online with the help of google but Suzanne is not the type to buy something she can not see and touch. A search of the yellow pages both hard copy and online turned up no real good sources.

Suzanne then remembered seeing a bunch of ads for bunk beds in the Los Angeles Family Magazine and on Sunday last we were off to Downey and the Good Night Sleep Center and made it there with 45 minutes to closing. We left thinking we knew which bed we wanted but when we got home and looked at the photos. We decided we liked this bed
<img src="http://home.netcom.com/~jso/bunkbed.jpg"width="200" height="220" /> which we had not considered while in the store but which I had shot a picture of anyway.

So this weekend we went back down to Downey for a confirming look and placed an order with hope that it will arrive in a week or so.

Now we just need to reconfigure the kids bedroom to accommodate the bed and the ladder.

I have been listening to David McCullough’s book on John Adams. The excerpts from letters and journal entries fascinate me. It has made me think how little written material will be left from a modern person. Given that people tend to communicate by phone and not letter or email, will there be the same residual information for posterity when we are gone. Does this explain the plethora of Blogs that have sprouted up on the web.

Given that, I wish to strive to keep a journal/blog. Unfortunately, I think that in this day and age it is hard to find the time to keep a journal.

Only time will tell if I can keep up with the discipline need to keep this or any other journal.

Ok I am a big fan of Audible.com.
